Researcher Mario Montagud (MiA, i2CAT) delivered the opening keynote at ACM MMSys 2025, in which he spoke about AccessCat.

From March 31 to April 4, Stellenbosch, South Africa, hosted ACM MMSys 2025, the world’s leading conference on multimedia systems. The event opened with a keynote by Mario Montagud, researcher from MiA at i2CAT, who focused on the urgent need to ensure accessibility in future immersive multimedia services. His talk provided a comprehensive overview of current advancements and emerging opportunities in the field, with the aim of inspiring both the scientific and industrial communities.

Among other topics, Montagud spoke about the AccessCat Network and the ImmAcc Player Accessibility Layer, a modular accessibility layer for web-based VR360 (360º video) players that offers an enhanced set of presentation modes for accessibility services, as well as customisable and inclusive interaction options.

The MMSys and MMVE conferences provided a valuable forum for dialogue and collaboration, bringing together researchers and major companies such as Nokia, Adobe, and Disney. As Montagud noted, the event allowed participants to “share ideas and debate proposals with the international multimedia technology community.”
