The network will once again take part in the World Summit on the Information Society (WSIS), which this year will be held from 7 to 11 July in Geneva.
The World Summit on the Information Society (WSIS) is an event organised by the main UN agencies (such as ITU, UNICEF or UNESCO, among others) with the aim of promoting global digital cooperation to build inclusive, people-centred, and development-oriented information and knowledge societies.
The AccessCat Network, a member of the ITU (the UN telecommunications agency) through the UAB, which coordinates the network, is pleased to attend the summit once again this year with several activities:
- Throughout the summit, members of the network’s Executive Committee will host an information stand to present and explain, in an international setting, the network’s work in knowledge transfer and research into accessibility to communication, information, and education in Catalonia by its various research groups.
- On 7 July, from 17:00 to 17:45, researchers Anna Matamala (TransMedia Catalonia), Pilar Orero (TransMedia Catalonia), Estel·la Oncins (TransMedia Catalonia), Mireia Farrús (CLiC), and Mar Gutiérrez-Colón (ReLaTe) will take part in the session “Media and Education for All: Bridging Female Academic Leaders and Society towards Impactful Results”, a round table discussion exploring female leadership in research through media and education-related projects that contribute to building an inclusive society aligned with the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), such as ENACT, MOSAIC, InclusiVRity, and SCRIBAL.

- On 8 July, from 16:00 to 16:45, researcher Pilar Orero (TransMedia Catalonia) will take part in the session “Leaving No One Behind in the Citiverse”, focusing on sustainable, accessible, and inclusive smart cities, alongside international speakers.

- On 9 July, from 09:00 to 10:00, researcher Pilar Orero (TransMedia Catalonia) will attend the Giga Connectivity Forum 2025, dedicated to the modernisation and digitalisation of schools to improve and facilitate access to education, during the session “The Digital Imperative: The Critical Role of School Connectivity”.

- On 9 July, researcher Pilar Orero (TransMedia Catalonia) will also participate in the AI for Good conference, taking place from 8 to 11 July alongside WSIS. She will speak in the workshop “AI & Virtual Worlds: Building the Cities and Governments of Tomorrow”, in the segment focused on the metaverse, smart cities, and ethical AI (from 11:20 to 12:10).
